Bring a Piece of Mumbai Home: The Tetrapod by NOTICE

A handcrafted aluminium paperweight inspired by the city’s enduring shoreline.

In a city where the sea meets stories, one shape has silently stood witness to it all—the tetrapod. Lining Mumbai’s coastlines, these four-legged concrete forms have weathered monsoons, watched over first dates, overheard late-night confessions, and stood quietly beside the unforgettable moments that shape a life.

At NOTICE, we’ve reimagined this industrial icon as a sculptural object for your home or workspace. Introducing the Tetrapod paperweight—a love letter to Mumbai, camouflaged in the everyday, a desk essential that is much more than meets the eye.

Not Just a Desk Essential but a Love Letter to Mumbai:

Crafted in sand-cast aluminium and finished by hand, the Tetrapod is a quiet statement. It doesn’t shout for attention—but it holds its own. Whether anchoring a stack of notes or simply resting on your shelf, it’s a reminder of something deeper: the places that shape us, and the stories that stay with us.Each piece carries the textured charm and understated strength of the originals, while offering a refined, modern aesthetic for your workspace.

This isn’t just a paperweight. It’s Mumbai, cast in metal.

The Process Behind the Piece:

Each Tetrapod is born from a process that values craft over convenience:

  • First, a custom mold is created to echo the geometry of the original shoreline tetrapods.
  • The object is then sand-cast in molten aluminium, a time-intensive method known for producing rich, textured surfaces and lasting strength.
  • Once cast, the piece is cooled, demolded, and carefully hand-finished to preserve its raw integrity while smoothing edges and accentuating form.
  • The final result carries natural marks of the casting process—slight pour ripples, grain patterns, and surface irregularities that make each one completely unique.

No two are identical. That’s not a flaw—it’s the fingerprint of the maker. A mark of intentional imperfection. A celebration of hand over machine.
